Yesterday while I was buying a shoe for myself online, I got confused and thought of using the customer assistance. I went to their live chat option, but unfortunately none of their customer care executives were online. I just applied my 'bihari buddhi' and tried to trace their system. And voila!!! I landed up reaching this site. www.volusion.com. This company provides free customer care assistance software and a lot of other stuffs. If you also want to show off you just need to install the chat client on your system. You'll receive the HTML code in your mail, which you can add on your site and that is all. You are ready to give assistance to your visitors...

The Google game

All these days I've been installing and un-installing operating systems. One of the most interesting operating systems I came across was gOS, the common belief is that this is the google operating system, but let me tell you its not. gOS is an independent linux distro which provides a lots of google applications and comes with a lots of pre-installed widgets. The operating system has a very nice and neat look.

After checking this out, I wanted to do something similar with my ubuntu installation. But, when I started looking for Google chrome(don't mistake me I still hate the browser, it was just for the sake of testing that i wanted it) to my surprise there is no linux version available. Then I tried doing the same for google talk, here also there is no linux version available.

Now the question is why the company which says that it is promoting open source and freeware not providing softwares for opensource?
The answer was very easy to find, as soon as I surfed to the page of Google Chrome I could figure out what was going on. There is a great game behind all this. Specially the OS and browser war going on, along with the well know Microsoft & Google fights makes it even more interesting. Just to start with let me tell you that google OS is a browser which is going to be launched in October(tentatively). And the base of this browser/OS is linux. So, it becomes very shocking for me if google chrome or google talk can not be installed linux distros. How a software which is entirely developed on linux and which is going to be a linux OS not support other linux distros? The answer to this is even more simpler - Google wants to govern the opensource market and that's why it has been wasting money on these stupid wars with Microsoft. The revenue generated by google is more than any other freeware/shareware. Google is playing the same old game like Microsoft.(hope you guys remember netscape vs internet explorer). The moment google OS is launched it will rule out Windows and even if the pace is slow in the beginning Google can always put in money for it.(we all firefox lovers hate the ads of google chrome on orkut/facebook or other popular sites).

This fight is good only for pockets of the users. But, what about the other linux developers...Is everyone going to end up making widgets for google??

That is what mozilla and sea monkey has to say. Now lets examine how good the browser is.

The very look of the browser is not appealing. It has a very packed and dull look, almost like the computer running on safe mode. New age users who are already using chrome and firefox 3.0.5 will not go for this update. The browser provides all that is says on the left hand corner of the screen - a chatzilla client, email and news group client etc. But, end of the day style does matter.

Let us wait till the next update..If they present it in a good looking package, sea monkey is likely to become very popular because no other browser offers a HTML editor and chat client as of now.

please back-up all your data before going for installation, as it is a pre release it might crash at any point of time and there is not enough scope of troubleshooting/help from windows side.

GHOST

For a long time all of us have been hearing about cloud computing and virtual computers. Since, google is coming up with a similar - browser based operating system the conversation has heated up again. So, in this post I'll tell you about a very nice web site which offers cloud computing and seems to me the best virtual computer. The project is named Ghost. g.ho.st

The operating system offers you a virtual hard disk of 15GB. You can avail a bonus of 5GB by inviting friends i.e every time a persons joins ghost through your reference, 5GB of space is added to your virtual disk.

Ghost also provides other utility tools such as office softwares called Zoho write, Zoho sheets(very similar to open office) and items included in vista sidebar such as sticky notes etc. The interface is very user friendly. And as it has been developed on a flash platform it uploads really fast. The best feature is 'bulk upload' which is very similar to FTPs, almost same as filezilla. You can drag and drop files from you computer's hard disk onto your virtual computer.
